Club Enjoys Dinner at Pirate-Themed Spot in Somersett

by Marcus Dodson, Newsletter Editor

In early July, 27 members of the Sierra Nevada Section of the Mercedes®-Benz Club of America met at Gambi’s in the Somersett neighborhood of Reno.  This was the second time the club has dined at this upscale-casual Italian restaurant, which is uniquely decorated with pirate-themed furnishings and art.  Sometimes, the owner of the restaurant can be spotted walking around the establishment with a parrot on his shoulder.

On this particular evening, guests traveled from as far away as Carson City and Sacramento, and everyone arrived hungry and ready to enjoy the night.  Several members had recently returned to Reno, having escaped the harsh Sierra Nevada winter in favor of warmer climates.  Everyone was glad to see familiar faces and catch up with each other.

Prior to siting down for dinner, the group enjoyed 20 minutes of mingling in the adjacent restaurant bar.  The owner of Gambi’s is also the proprietor of Lido Bay Wine, a Northern California winery, and the restaurant had several tawdry-named wines on the drink menu.  These include Lido Bay Revelers Merlot, Bitch Tongue Pinot Noir, Mercenary Cabernet, Mutiny, Marauder, and Dead Man’s Red.

Gambi’s generously gave the group its own set of waiters and a dedicated bartender for the evening.  This enhanced service allowed food to come out quickly, arriving at the table hot and ready to be enjoyed.  The night’s entrees included risotto balls, stuffed mushrooms, salads, ravioli, scampi, spaghetti, penne, tortellini, lasagna bolognese, ahi tuna tartare, steak, salmon, and much more.
